ASCENSION and IMMORTALITY
April 29 - May 1, 2011
Travel, Places to stay, Local activities, etc.

TRAVEL

FLIGHT: Coming by plane, you can save yourself extra cost by flying into San Francisco (4-5 hours drive from Mt. Shasta) or Sacramento (3-4 hours drive). Medford, Oregon is the nearest large airport (about an hour 20 minutes) but has been oriented more toward flights to the north; it may have changed, you can give that a try. Redding, about an hour south, takes puddle jumpers only. All of them have rental cars. It'll be best to have a car available while you're here. The weather for the April workshop will probably be too cold for camping.

DRIVING: Mt. Shasta is in far northern California about 50 miles south of the Oregon border, on Interstate 5. If you are driving north on I-5, take the first exit for south Mt. Shasta Blvd. addresses, the second (Central) exit for the center of town, turning right at the exit stop sign. Driving south, take the Central (second) exit and turn left at the stop sign. From either direction, this will put you on Lake Street.

If you’re interested in hooking up with another(s) to share a rental car and/or a room, email joanna-ami@jps.net (put "workshop" in the Subject) with your email and telephone number, and we will give you the contact for others of like mind.

PLACES TO STAY

These have been vouched for by others; I would like to hear your experience. There are many others in town. Prices are “ballpark”; when you call, make sure to tell them you’re with a group and are staying at least three days. All area codes are 530.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

(More details & map will be given when you arrive.)

Spa: Stewart Mineral Springs is a wonderful, rustic spa with natural healing waters, private baths, sauna, stream to jump into. You can also stay there; it’s about 25 minutes north of Mt Shasta. The phone is 530-938-2222.

HIKING

Lovely hiking around Lake Siskiyou should be snow free.
Up on the mountain for the daring, snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing may still be happening in late April or perhaps the snow will be melted, all depends on the weather.
Castle Crags, about 15 miles south on I-5, has some spectacular hikes. Ask at the entry gate.
